Horrific Recap of March 20 - 26, 2022

Writer's picture: Eric J. CullenEric J. Cullen

Hey there horror fans, sorry about last week and the lack of a Horrific Recap. All I can say is my bad, and I hope you’ll forgive me by enjoying this week’s Horrific Recap, that takes a look at some of the horror that occurred last week. I’ll keep this short because you’re probably aching for some terrifying new developments, I know I am, so lets begin this little trip down horror memory lane, starting with…

March 20 - Sunday

Later in March, horror fanatics can venture out into the woods with Follower, a soon to release horror flick from Smallertown Productions, coming in with a runtime at just a little over an hour.

Three friends and recent college graduates, look forward to having an enjoyable time together while backpacking in the woods, to celebrate their exciting new futures and of course, their friendship. Things take a scary turn though when the friends realize that they are being followed and videos of their backpacking trip are being uploaded to the internet.

Directed by James Rich, who co-wrote the film with Serena Kamlani, Follower stars Revell Carpenter, Molly Leach, Gigi James and Jonathan Jennings. Follower comes to VOD later this month on March 29.

March 21 - Monday

That new Addams Family spinoff, Wednesday, is still in the works and picking up a new cast mate along the way.

Recently in the news for parting ways with Thora Birch, Netflix’s Wednesday puts a positive spin on things today by announcing that Christina Ricci will be part of the cast. Ricci’s involvement won’t be a re-casting of the character left behind by Birch, but will in fact be a new character that will fill the same role.

Ricci is no stranger to the oddball family Addams, having played Wednesday Addams twice in the films directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Recently seen in the Showtime hit show Yellowjackets, horror fans with a kooky side can next check out Christina Ricci in Wednesday, the soon to come series from Netflix.

March 22 - Tuesday

Well, now I'm asking myself the same question, Don. When are we gonna get a Phantasm video game?

Don Coscarelli took to Twitter with a fun idea, and it appears he may be quite serious. The director of the Phantasm franchise of films is seeking ideas and collaboration opportunities from those that could help get a video game off the ground.

Horror movies are finding a strong foundation in the world of video games, and it seems like video game fans, and horror fans alike, can’t seem to get enough from horror games. Will we one day get a game featuring The Tall Man? Maybe a series of games that allow one to play through the whole Phantasm franchise? This horror fan has his fingers crossed.

Numskull has been busy, collaborating with Capcom and Resident Evil, for a new figure that has given fans of the famed franchise jump scares for decades now.

Coming later this year in August, a new figure inspired by one of the most badass baddies from Resident Evil, Licker will be available for any collector brave enough to have this one on their shelf.

With bared teeth, a raised danger claw and a tongue ready to spear you through the abdomen, this official Resident Evil figure from Numskull will stand at 6.5 inches tall. Finely detailed and hand-painted, the limited edition Licker figure is now available for pre-order at GameStop and other retailers, with a release date later this year on August 30.

Horror fans knew him best as Deputy Winslow from Friday the 13th Part 2, and today with great sadness, I must announce that actor Jack Marks has passed away.

Enjoying a career in theater and off-Broadway before his role in Friday the 13th Part 2, Jack Marks was not only an actor, but a writer and family man as well. Jack Marks is remembered today by family, friends and of course the horror community that can watch Marks die at the hands of Jason Voorhees for many, many years to come.

March 23 - Wednesday

More Evil Dead Rise news comes our way this week, with a bit of news that should be no surprise to anyone who is a fan of the Evil Dead franchise.

Those who know best over at the MPAA have given Evil Dead Rise an R-rating, for what I can only imagine to be awesome, gory horror violence and the possibility of an f-bomb or five.

Written and directed by Lee Cronin, Evil Dead Rise will tell the story of two sisters, practically strangers, who will face unimaginable, demonic evils as they battle for their lives. Starring Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan and Morgan Davies, Evil Dead Rise is eyeing a release for later this year.

As hype and promotions begin to kick off for the latest season of Stranger Things, those behind the show's marketing have been kind enough to give fans a few peeks at what's to come from Stranger Things 4.

Things are about to get spookier for the rag-tag group of D&D loving teens, now that the guild is split and experiencing the dreads of high school. It also appears that Hopper is going to have his work cut for him as well in this next season that will see all kinds of strange occurrences going on in Hawkins, and also on the West Coast in California.

Created by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things will premiere its fourth season on Netflix, premiering in two parts with the first batch of episodes set to release on May 27, and the rest to follow on July 1.

March 24 - Thursday

Far Cry 6 and Stranger Things come together for a Free Play Weekend that will have Far Cry 6 players taking on a very strange new mission in what is being called, The Vanishing DLC.

The Vanishing is a new mission that will start by receiving a call from Juan, asking you to get over to Rio de Plata to investigate the disappearance of guerillas and a C-4 shipment. Gunblazing Far Cry actions meets Stranger Things in this one of a kind DLC that will have you enjoying new locations while you try and rescue Chorizo.

The Free Play Weekend for Far Cry 6 starts March 24 and will last until March 27, available across the board on consoles like Xbox and PlayStation, as well as PC.

March 25 - Friday

His new film, X, just released Friday of last week, and now director Ti West wants to hear from you.

The writer and director will be on Reddit later today, doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) in the r/movies subreddit, where he'll answer the questions and comments left by redditors, and horror junkies alike. Fans no doubt probably have a million questions for Ti West, and it's always a joy to see film directors answer some rather engaging questions, even the personal ones.

It's still early in the day, so get your questions/comments posted and hope that the subreddit feels the same. Top voted comments usually get answered and it's highly likely someone else is wondering, or feels, the same as you. Get the conversation started with the writer and director of X. Ti West begin his AMA at 5PM. How long it will last? Well, I guess that depends on the quality of questions.

March 26 - Saturday

If you've been following along with TeamKill Media's Quantum Error, then I'm happy to tell you that they just released a new video, giving fans and those interested a peek at the Quantum Error plot.

The cosmic-horror game puts players in control of Capt. Jacob Thomas, who along with his partner Shane Costa, answer a distress call from Monad Quantum Research Facility, a structure 30 miles off the California coast. What takes place after that looks like engaging melee combat and gunfights, taking place in multiple settings on Earth and what appears to be space.

Projected to release later this year, Quantum Error will be available on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

Well, how was that for spooky, horror fans? Not too bad, I hope? Thanks for stopping by Horror Junket and getting your weekly fill of horror news, as always it’s a pleasure getting it to you. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open, because there is a lot going on in the world of horror these days. Stop by next week and I’ll have some of that news here for you in another Horrific Recap. Alright, go on now and enjoy your day, or your night, either way don’t forget to scream every once in a while.
