Keith Thomas, who has had recent success with his horror film, The Vigil, will direct an upcoming adaptation of the bestselling novel written by Stephen King in 1980.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions will team up with Thomas to produce a new telling of the story about Charlie McGee and her father, on the run from a government agency called The Shop. Scott Teems, having just recently finished the Halloween sequel, Halloween Kills, will write the new adaptation about the little girl with pyrokinetic powers.

'Firestarter' was first adapted for the big screen in 1984 and starred Drew Barrymore, Martin Sheen and George C. Scott. Even with the star power behind it, the film was not well received by audiences or critics so this new take on the Stephen King classic will be something to check out.
