We've seen most of our classic horror icons like Jason, Freddy and Chucky rebooted or reimagined in the last decade. It should come as no surprise that the Candyman film and the character by the same name, should receive the same treatment.

Announced earlier today by Jonathan Glickman, president of MGM, the motion picture company would be working with Jordan Peele's production company Monkeypaw to bring the hooked, bee-loving villain back to life. Nia DaCosta, who recently earned the Nora Ephron Award, will direct from a screenplay written by Peele and Win Rosenfeld.
Brought to life in 1992 by the great master of horror Tony Todd, the character Candyman was quick to become a horror staple of the nineties and a fun name replacement when playing 'Bloody Mary' in a dark bathroom. The new film will be a 'spiritual sequel' to the cult horror hit with Deadline reporting that the story will return to the setting of a 'now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.' There is no news yet if Todd will be returning to the character he made most famous but I do expect some news soon. With a release date of June 12, 2020, Candyman is still in early development but as news happens, you will hear it here first.
