Milly Shapiro Rumored For Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’

Writer: Eric J. CullenEric J. Cullen

Fresh off the news that acclaimed horror director Mike Flanagan is adapting Stephen King’s Carrie into a television limited series, rumors are swirling that Milly Shapiro (Hereditary) is in talks to portray the iconic Carrie White.

Milly Shapiro’s unsettling performance in Hereditary showcased her ability to embody an eerie, misunderstood outsider—qualities that make her an ideal candidate for the role of Carrie. If the rumors prove true, fans can expect a deeply emotional and chilling interpretation of King’s tragic protagonist.

Additionally, reports suggest that Samantha Sloyan, a frequent collaborator of Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass), is in discussions to play Margaret White, Carrie’s fanatical mother. If cast, Sloyan’s intense screen presence could bring some of the most terrifying mother-daughter moments ever seen in a Carrie adaptation.

Mike Flanagan has revealed that his adaptation of Carrie will incorporate significant changes to make the story more relevant to today’s world. Before moving forward with the project—developed in partnership with Amazon—Flanagan sought Stephen King’s approval, acknowledging that he wouldn’t proceed without the legendary author’s blessing. Initially, King was skeptical about revisiting Carrie, questioning whether another adaptation was necessary. However, after reviewing Flanagan’s fresh approach, King changed his mind, calling the new vision “exciting and relevant.”

“When I mentioned it to him and said, ‘What do you think about Carrie for TV?’ He said, ‘Well, why? Leave her alone. She’s good, she’s done.’ But when I sent him the layout of how I saw it could work, he really liked it.” — Mike Flanagan

Flanagan admitted he was initially surprised that Carrie became a priority for him, much like when he hesitated to adapt The Turn of the Screw for The Haunting of Bly Manor. However, once he discovered a fresh way to tell the story, he knew it was worth pursuing.

This eight-episode limited series promises to be a slow-burning, emotionally gripping, and deeply terrifying take on Carrie. Given Flanagan’s track record with psychological horror and complex character studies, this adaptation is expected to go beyond mere scares, delivering a profound and haunting experience.

As anticipation builds, horror fans eagerly await confirmation of the cast and further details on how Flanagan will reinvent one of Stephen King’s most enduring and tragic characters for a new generation.

Stay tuned for more updates on Mike Flanagan’s Carrie adaptation and all things horror!
