Fans of Alien, its sequels and its prequels, will be happy to know that Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues are hard at work on the next film in the franchise, and that its working title is currently, Alien: Romulus.
Produced by Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions, along with 20th Century Studios, Alien: Romulus was first brought to Hollywood attention back in March of last year, when it was announced that Fede Alvarez would be doing a stand-alone Alien film. Fast forward to today, we have casting rumors, and confirmation that production starts February of next year in Budapest, Hungary.
Alien: Romulus' plot remains unknown at this time, but according to those close to the production, the upcoming film has a good story, with new and interesting characters that haven't been seen before in an Alien film. Could we be getting some extraterrestrial crewmembers that aren't savage killers? Fans of a certain Alien baddie won't be disappointed either, with confirmation from Deadline that Xenomorphs will still be present in the new film. Those expecting an Ellen Ripley storyline, however, will be disappointed as Alien: Romulus has no plans to even touch on the coveted story arc.
Actress Cailee Spaeny is rumored to star in the upcoming film, that will see Fede Alvarez in the director's seat, writing Alien: Romulus with his frequent collaborator, Rodo Sayagues. While the film still has a long way to go in its journey towards completion, it's refreshing to know that it sits in the hands of filmmakers that can hammer out an Alien film that is new, yet familiar. While there currently is no release date yet for Alien: Romulus, when that time comes the film will enjoy its premiere on Hulu.
