Kino Lorber will release two new editions of Needful Things later in July, giving fans of the lengthy feature film the chance to own an even more expanded edition of Needful Things, on either Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD.
Starring Max von Sydow, Ed Harris, Bonnie Bedelia, Amanda Plummer, and J.T. Walsh, Needful Things tells a story set in the small town of Castle Rock, whose residents fall victim to Leland Gaunt, a new and mysterious old man, who opens an antique shop that seems to have exactly what the guest is looking for. When the town's residents begin to turn on each other, some with bloody results, it's up to Castle Rock's sheriff to save the day.
The novel on which the film is based on, was written by Stephen King, and first published in October of 1991. Less than two years later, the film version of Needful Things would hit theaters in August of 1993 -- and reviews were not good.
Many film critics felt that Needful Things suffered from too long of a runtime, a lack of fleshed out characters, and more importantly, suffered from a lack of scares. Since then, Needful Things has become a so-so received film, that shines only from the performances given by the outstanding cast.
The two-disc release of Needful Things will include the theatrical version of the film on one disc, presented in 4K Ultra HD. The disc will also include audio commentary from the film's director Fraser C. Heston.
The second disc will include a Blu-ray version of the TV cut of Needful Things, a version of the film that ran on TBS, and includes additional footage, and 191 minute runtime. The second disc will also include a new interview with Needful Things' screenwriter W.D. Richter.
Pre-orders are going on now for this two-disc, Kino Lorber release of Needful Things, and it will be available to own this summer on July 25.
